Les Climats De Bourgogne listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

A historic date for Burgundy

The World Heritage Committee inscribed the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne on UNESCO’s World Heritage List at its 39th session in Bonn, Germany.
The Climats have Outstanding Universal Value, a treasure now recognized worldwide. The dream we made together 8 years ago is now a reality.
It is to you, who have believed in this adventure and supported it with fervor, that we would like to pay tribute and express our heartfelt thanks. This inscription is the fruit of a collective effort, carried out in concert by local authorities, government departments, the scientific committee, the wine world, companies and patrons, and the more than 64,000 members of the Support Committee of which you are a part. We look forward to seeing you on July 9, at 8pm at Château de Meursault, to celebrate this historic date together.
This inscription is recognition of the work of all the generations that have gone before us – winegrowers, Cistercian monks, the Dukes of Burgundy – who, over the centuries, have patiently built the vineyards of Burgundy, striving with determination for excellence. It opens a new page in the history of the Climats de Bourgogne, as did the creation of the AOC in 1936. It guarantees the preservation and transmission of the site for future generations.
It also opens the door to ambitious projects for the region, in terms of culture, the environment and economic development. Bravo to all, and long live Burgundy!
