Rural life at the turn of the 20th century.

The exhibition explores rural life at the turn of the ^20th century, through the amateur photographers’ collections held by the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, and in particular the work of Joseph Suchet in Seurre, Côte d’Or.

Imbued with the example of the writers and painters of the period, the amateur photographer never tires of recording traditional rural lifestyles and skills on a sensitive medium. Far from the simple documentary function, they were adepts of “artistic photography”. They create images to evoke emotion in the viewer. Beyond the richness of the inspiration and the high technical quality of the shots, the exhibition allows us to relive this vanished peasant life.
