More than a hundred years old, it has been established for 6 generations in the heart of Burgundy and has belonged to the Piffaut family since the beginning.

0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} Marie Ambal 1859 Anne Marie Ninot was born in Rully in 1859, in the heart of the Burgundy terroir.
She married Antoine Emile Ambal, a Parisian banker, 20 years later. She followed him to Paris and they had 2 children.

There, she reunited with her brother, a Burgundy wine merchant-owner. It was at this time that the méthode champenoise began to emerge. Marie took an interest in it and decided to create her own Maison in 1898. In the early days, she produced white and red méthode champenoise quality sparkling wines. 1859 1908 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 1st transfer - Charles Roux 1929 Marie Ambal dies after a brilliant career at the helm of Maison Veuve Ambal. She was succeeded by her grandson, Charles Roux-Ambal, who ran the business until his death in 1988, before handing over to his own grandson, Éric Piffaut. 1898 1930
OBTAINING THE AOC CRÉMANT DE BOURGOGNE 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 1975 After the Liberation, Charles Roux-Ambal revived Veuve Ambal production and contributed to its expansion. Under his leadership, the company's reputation grew, leading to the expansion of the cellars in 1961 to meet growing demand. In 1975, a milestone was reached with the award of the Crémant de Bourgogne AOC, replacing the Bourgogne Mousseux appellation. 1972 1980 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 1988 In 1980, Éric Piffaut joined Veuve Ambal, carrying on the family legacy. He took over management in 1988 after the retirement of his grandfather, Charles Roux-Ambal, and strengthened the house's position as the benchmark for Crémants de Bourgogne. Family continuity 1975 1990 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 1989 The construction of new cellars, followed by further extensions in 1994 and 1997, enabled Maison Veuve Ambal to reinforce its production capacity and support its development. Building new cellars 1975 1990 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 1998 Maison Veuve Ambal celebrated its centenary, marking over 100 years of history, excellence and tradition in the production of Crémants de Bourgogne. One hundred years of excellence and tradition 1988 2000 0{{current_slide_index}} 0{{total_slide_count}} 2005 The move to Montagny marks a new era for Veuve Ambal, with modern facilities and increased production capacity, reinforcing its role as a leading producer of Crémant de Bourgogne. Veuve Ambal cultivates over 220 hectares of vines on the finest terroirs in Burgundy. This wealth of soils, climates and exposure enables us to create Crémants de Bourgogne that are elegant, complex and accessible.

  • Molesme (36 ha) – On the northern edge of Burgundy, this limestone terroir produces remarkably lively wines with notes of red fruit and pastries.

  • Auxerrois, near Chablis (44 ha) – Kimmeridgian soils provide minerality and tension, for Crémants with expressive freshness.

  • Hautes Côtes de Nuits, at Bevy (36 ha) – High-altitude terroir producing balanced, delicate wines with aromas of citrus, white flowers and dried fruit.

  • Côte Chalonnaise (72 ha) – Between Couchois and Maranges, a well-exposed vineyard offering generous, structured wines dominated by red and black berries.

  • Mâconnais, around Igé and Blanot (36 ha) – Sun-drenched hillsides sublimate Chardonnay, for Crémants with a full texture and an assertive sweetness.

Thanks to this harmonious blend of terroirs and grape varieties, Veuve Ambal creates Crémants de Bourgogne with a great personality, to be shared in all simplicity.

THE MOST AWARDED CREMANTS DE BOURGOGNE

ÉRIC ET AURÉLIEN

Eric Piffaut, grandson of Charles Roux, joined the family business in 1980 and became CEO in 1988. A visionary, he endowed Veuve Ambal with vineyard estates, helped raise the profile of the AOC, and led Veuve Ambal to the rank of 1st producer and leading brand of Crémant de Bourgogne.

Eric Piffaut’s son Aurélien joined Veuve Ambal in 2010. He represents the 6th generation of the family, and carries in his veins the dynamism instilled by his ancestor Marie Ambal.
